Arsinoe II - Queen of the Nile

Description
Arsinoe II was a beautiful and powerful queen of Egypt over 200 years before her more famous descendant Cleopatra VII. She was considered even more ruthless than Cleopatra and always found ways to make opponents conveniently disappear. Many consider her to be the power behind the throne of her brother, Ptolemy II, also known as Ptolemy Philadelphus, the son of one of Alexander the Great's generals.
As with others in this "femmes fatales" collection, I have tried to depict her as an artist of the day might have done, in this case immortalized as a sandstone haut relief carving on a temple wall. This began as a simple studio photograph. The symbols are actual hieroglyphs from a variety of temples that I photographed during an extended trip to Egypt a few years ago.
