Artist's Description
The Habitation at Port-Royal was the first permanent French settlement in New France, built during the summer of 1605. A small, rectangular stockade surrounding a central courtyard, it was nestled on the north shore of the present-day Annapolis Basin bounding the south side of the Bay of Fundy.
